Got A New Job, So Putting Content 2.0 To Work For Me

I've been plugging away at SBI for almost two years with good results on my nature travel site. I receive lots of questions about jungle trekking and where to see wildlife, but never thought to use Content 2.0 for the answers because it cost more.

Now that C2 is part of the main SBI package, it was an easy decision to start generating more content pages by asking visitors to submit travel stories and ask questions about holidaying in Malaysia.

A job opportunity came along and I worried that I couldn't keep up with adding more content pages when starting in a new full time position. However, the power of C2 allows you to concentrate on other responsibilities, while your website churns out pages on its own. I may not have the time to write new pages, but C2 will keep the ball rolling until I find out how to adjust my new work schedule.

So now all the questions that come to my nature site will not only be answered, but C2 will keep the site dynamic during my slow down period with the new job.

The entire SBI package is an amazing set of tools to build an online business at your own pace. Even when other opportunities came along, your website can function and grow without demanding too much of your time.

So while I go work for others, I'm putting C2 into action to work for me. How awesome is that!

Hi JM

As a contributor, all you have control over is to whether to submit or not. Things are set up on the back end by the webmaster. However, you could be given your own invitation so that all of your submissions are grouped together, or they can be grouped after the fact by using the tool Merge/Demerge.

If you're not the webmaster, perhaps you should contact him or her and see what can be worked out. Perhaps they will give you your own section if you contribute frequently enough. :)

Mini MySpace for Contributors?

How would one go about creating a mini mySpace for contributors? Not the webmaster, but someone who contributes on a regular basis answering questions, instead of the webmaster doing it. Or is this even possible?

How to Get and Edit Content 2.0 Contributions

Hi Jack!

There are many ways to get people to make Content 2.0 contributions on your site. Many times, just by placing an invitation on a well-traveled page on your site is all that is needed to get people to interact. Visitors see that entry form, and feel compelled to write something in it.

But sometimes webmasters need more control or more of a stimulus to get things going. In those cases, holding contests has been very effective. People love to compete and they especially love to win. So many times, a contest will kick start the contribution process into high gear.

Other methods have included creating a mini-MySpace, and a Question and Answer area where visitors can freely communicate with the webmaster and find out information they are looking for.

Whenever you receive a submission, you have complete control over its implementation. In fact, the submission will wait until you approve it before it goes live. Because of this, you have the ability to edit it slightly to improve grammar or spelling, for example, or to reject it entirely.

In this way, you can control spam that you might encounter and maintain a high-quality resource for your visitors.
