Triple Growth Due to Content 2.0

After writing my own content for my website became a real chore, I discovered Content 2.0. Then I started putting up C2.0 invitations on my site to attract others with similar interests to contribute their individual stories to my little website.

Wow! Things began to take off from that point on. Slowly at first, but then a steady stream of contributors adding great content and photos began to grow my website well beyond my wildest imagination.

With the growth in C2.0 contributions I also noticed comparable traffic increases to my site. More visitors, more page views and more income potential (I have just begun to seriously monetize my website).

My traffic continues to triple in total volume every 12 months and I know that C2.0 is the primary reason for this expansion.

My SBI! website is good without C2.0,but truly GREAT with it!

Adsense for Search

Thanks for the kind words Barb.

It's very easy (and you don't need to know HTML code) to put Adsense for Search on your Block Builder site.

1) Decide where you want to place your Adsense Search box.

2) Open a "Text" box in your site build it.

3) Go to your Adsense account and click on the "Adsense Set-up" tab.

4) Choose the "Adsense for Search" option

5) Then just follow their instructions through to where you copy the Adsense code, and then go to your "text" box and paste in that code.

6) Test it to make sure it is working and you should be all set.

7) You can put an Adsense search box code on as many pages as you choose...I create a totally new one for each page so that I can track from where my revenue is originating.

That should do it! Hope this helps some

Larry (or Jan),

I should have asked this earlier.

Larry, I see you have a google custom search on your site. I still use the block builder and don't understand html yet. Do you have to know html to get the search onto your pages? I can't find anywhere on SBI that tells me how to do it in block builder. I'd think it would really help people stay on your site longer.

I really like, by the way, how you set up your C2.0 pages.

Jan did an excellent job of answering your question.

Just because you reach a max of 300 or so pages doesn't mean your site should stop growing.

The short answer is that traffic and "buzz" are the keys to C2.0

Those long-tailed keywords create small amounts of traffic each...but if you have thousands of those keywords from C2.0 pages, that traffic adds up significantly.

Also, those new visitors finding your site through C2.0 pages may like what they see and have a look at other pages on your website.

My Take on Content 2.0 and the Search Engines

Hi Barb

Whew! For a newbie, you sure ask smart questions. Hopefully I can help or Larry will chime in to back me up on this.

I can't say I know the exact technical ins and outs, but I know what happens from experience and when I started with C2, I had well over 300 pages. (I now have 10x that many, by the way.)

For me, my visitors love the new content. C2 acts as sort of a social network in my niche. Those who contribute really like watching to see if their contribution gets accepted and they love to tell their friends when it does.

So even though I have way over 300 pages now (and then), my visitors return each time something new gets accepted.

This causes an upward spiral of traffic stats and visitors that continues to climb into higher and higher ranges.

This is not just because of my visitors, but because the search engines love new content too. Each time I accept a new submission, it's a new page on my site. When my visitors go to check out that page, that activity must tell the search engines that there is life there. Things are new and my visitors are interested, plus they're sending others to the page. I frequently get "Stumbled," which causes massive traffic surges.

Then there is the phenomenon of long tail keywords and visitor comments. A long tail keyword is one that is related to your niche, but is very specifi. It is often a phrase containing several words. Example: If your site is about "Red Hair," a long tail keyword could be "Ways to get red hair to shine."

While each long tail page in itself may not attract as much traffic as the main keyword, "Red Hair," clusters of long tail pages can be very powerful because usually long tail pages have very little competition. They also support the page they are linked to, as well, pushing it higher in the search engine rankings.

So that's my take on what occurs and how C2 creates success regardless of the numbers.

When it comes to implementing C2 prior to having 30 pages - my only caution would be getting frustrated. Usually, sites with less than 30 pages don't have much traffic. So it may take time before C2 takes off and starts rolling.

Question about page numbers

Thanks for sharing your story, Larry.

I'm relatively new with SBI, but one of the things I remember hearing is that a site needs a minimum of about 30 pages, and a maximum of 240 (it may now be 300). It said no more than the maximum number of pages because search engines won't index more than that.

So I'm confused about why it's helpful to have 400, 600, 1000s of pages of non-Analyze It reader contributions if all pages can't be indexed anyway. It seems like the original content is thought out and Analyzed, with carefully placed in-text links to monetization, and that reader contributions wouldn't compare and one wouldn't want that first higher quality content replaced.

Any thoughts about this? Or do you know of a thread where this is already discussed?
